Take a Peek Inside - The Creative Workshop of Bella's Bunting

I love all things shabby chic, french provencial, beachy, and vintage inspired! With so many styles to pull inspiration from, the ideas are always flowing!

My latest love is working with this burlap like material, it has a very natural and french flea market feel. It looks beautiful embellished with both white or black.

I love the sweet and lasting touch of hand embroidery but because its not best to embroider on this material, I have been using rubber stamps to embellish. Warm words and Parisian images give these banners a beautiful but simple feel and add a touch of elegance to any room or occasion!

Whimsical Butterfly Mobile Tutorial

I love making pretty things.
I got the idea for this project after seeing something similar in Pottery Barn, but it wasn't until I found this metal picture mobile made by "kikkerland" (unopened at a yard sale for 50 cents!) that I decided to give making it a try.

You can get this same mobile on Amazon for just over $7. If you have Prime, you'll even get free shipping!

Materials List:

Picture Mobile
Sew-in or fusible, medium to heavy weight interfacing (1/4 yard)
Fabric glue if you don't use a fusible interfacing (sew-in is much, much cheaper!)
Fabric scraps of your choice, about 1/4 yard total
Ribbon of your choice (2-3 yards depending on how low you want the butterfly's to fly)

Tools:

Sewing Machine
Hole Punch (I used my crop-a-dile)

1. Use the templates attached and cut 10 butterflies out of the interfacing in your choice of sizes (I did 4 small, 3 medium and 3 large).

Since I don't know how to attach a pdf here, just send me an email and I will send you the pdf template of the butterflies. bellasbunting@gmail.com

2. Cut out fabric for each side of each butterfly you cut out.

3. Put a little glue around the edges and center of the interfacing and apply the fabric, (If you are using fusible interfacing follow the directions on the package to adhere your fabric).  Repeat for each side of every butterfly.

4. Give your glue time to dry and then stitch around the edge for added strength, use contrasting thread for added cuteness.

5. Punch a hole in the center, a little towards the front center helps them to hang more evenly.

6. Cut 10 pieces of ribbon at varying lengths and tie a knot at one end of each.

7. Thread the ribbon through the hole punched in each butterfly, letting the knot hold at the end.

8. Attach your beautiful butterfly's to your mobile and you're done! Now you have a fantastic decoration for under $10!

This same idea and instructions could be used to make a variety of different mobiles. Instead of cutting out butterfly shapes you could do flowers, stars, teddy bears, etc.

Please leave a comment below and let me know what you think, or if I left anything out! Thanks for stopping by.

The Beginning of Bella's Bunting

Bella's Bunting began with the pursuit to bring lasting beauty into our own family celebrations. The first of bella's bunting was created with the sweet stitching of hand embroidered letters and pictures. This combination of beautiful fabric, ribbon and artful stiching is something much greater than the sum of these materials; it is a family heirloom that can be used over and over for every special day for years to come. It was with the hope that our children will always remember "that special banner" that came out to add to the celebration of birthdays, anniversaries, and any other particularly 'happy day,' that the first of Bella's Bunting was created.

We are now delighted to make available these hand crafted banners for you to enjoy with your family, for years to come. Visit; www.etsy.com/shop/bellasbunting to see our selection.
